Beautification Banner

Sunny Border Nurseries not only grows a wide range of plant material for retail garden centers, nurseries and the landscape trade, we also produce plant material for beautification projects throughout the Northeast.

Our 85 years of experience in horticulture has positioned us well for this type of work, which is generally planned and facilitated by Landscape Architects, Municipalities and other public and private organizations. Many of these projects have materialized in the interest of building, improving and maintaining our green spaces. Some of the beautification projects we have produced plant material for include the following:

High Line

To date, we've produced over 10,000 sq. ft. of plant material for the landscape at the High Line public park in NYC. The High Line is a historic elevated freight line from the 1930's that was in danger of demolition after the train service was discontinued in 1980. A group called The Friends of the High Line was formed in 1999 which incorporated the railway infrastructure as part of a public park that now traverses south to north for almost 20 blocks on Manhattan's west side. The design of the newest section of the park on the north end is a collaboration between Siteworks Landscape Architecture and planting designer Piet Oudolf. Currently we are producing over 7,700 plants that have been planted at the northern end of the park in the spring of 2014. For more information on this wonderful park, please visit:

Barclays Center

Our team of growers is currently producing over 128,000 square feet (over 3 acres) of plant material for the high profile green roof project in the works for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. This project is set for installation in 2015 and is said to be the first of its kind for a national arena. It will provide an enhanced view and sound barrier for existing residents as well as the residents of the future buildings that are in the works to overlook the Barclays Center. For more information on the green roof planned for the Barclays Center visit:

Hudson River Park

Sunny Border continues to produce plant material for the extensive Hudson River Park project that was initiated in 1998 and is currently about 70 percent complete. For more information on this five mile long park along Manhattan's west side visit:

Battery Park & Battery City Park

Battery City Park is privately funded and designed by Lynden Miller. Battery Park is publicly and privately funded and was designed by Piet Oudolf and it's where the ferry docks for the Statue of Liberty, offering a fantastic view of this iconic American monument. We have been supplying plants to these parks for several years, and we have helped supply plants to replace those destroyed in Hurricane Sandy when Battery Park was under 14 ft. of salt water.

No project is too big or small for us to handle! See our gallery below for examples of some of the projects for which we have produced plant material. Contact your sales rep or our main office, 1-800-732-1627, for more information on how we can contribute to your next project with our extensive plant collection which includes a large list of native plants, ornamental grasses, ferns and more.
